Katrin Schmid is a Research Fellow and PhD candidate at the University of Vienna's Institute of Cultural and Social Anthropology, affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences. She is part of the ERC-funded INFRANORTH project examining Arctic futures, supervised by Professor Peter Schweitzer. Her research focuses on transport infrastructure’s role in sustaining Arctic communities like Iqaluit, Nunavut, alongside environmental perceptions and cumulative effects assessments.

Her research interests bridge environmental anthropology, mobility studies, and Indigenous governance. Recent work includes collaborations with Gitxaała Nation on resource access and participatory fieldwork in Uganda’s disability and technology projects. She contributes to interdisciplinary projects analyzing ecological systems and anthropogenic impacts.
Her publications explore cumulative effects assessment methodologies, fieldwork ethics, and greenhouse gas dynamics in bog ecosystems. Current projects emphasize infrastructural sustainability in Arctic contexts.
