Elena Davydova is a PhD candidate at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Vienna, and holds concurrent roles as Research Fellow at the Arctic Research Center (Russian Academy of Sciences) and the Scientific and Educational Center 'Circumpolar Chukotka'. Her research focuses on transport infrastructures, food systems, and human-animal relations in the Russian Arctic. Since 2022, she has contributed to the ERC-funded 'INFRANORTH' project under Prof. Peter Schweitzer, investigating infrastructure's role in sustaining foodways in remote Arctic communities.
She holds a MA from Saint-Petersburg State University (2012) and a kandidat nauk (PhD equivalent) in Ethnology from the Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (2015). Her fieldwork spans multiple Chukotka settlements, with a focus on indigenous livelihoods and post-Soviet socioeconomic transformations.
Elena has actively participated in Russian Science Foundation projects since 2017, addressing food security, energy regimes, and infrastructure development in the Arctic. Her publications explore microinfrastructure, venison production practices, and the socio-political impact of infrastructure projects. She is affiliated with the Association of Anthropologists and Ethnologists of Russia, the International Arctic Social Sciences Association, and the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences.
