Katja Kozjek is a Bioinformatician affiliated with the Department of Immunotechnology at Lund University and part of the EPI@BIO initiative. She is currently completing her PhD in Soil Ecology as part of the Biodiversa project SOILCLIM, which examines soil biodiversity under climate change and agricultural intensification.
- Education: BSc in Microbiology (University of Ljubljana), MSc in Microbiology (University of Innsbruck).
Her research focuses on functional genetic diversity of soil microorganisms involved in carbon cycling, using targeted metagenomic analysis to identify microbial groups (bacteria, fungi, archaea, protists) responsible for specific soil functions. This work addresses impacts of climate change and agricultural management on soil ecosystems, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to climate action and life on land.
Katja collaborates internationally through the SOILCLIM project and contributes to the National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden. Her publications emphasize drought effects, agricultural soil dynamics, and microbial gene activity.
