Katja Gorbahn

Katja Gorbahn is an Associate Professor at the Department of History within the School of Communication and Culture at Aarhus University. Her work focuses on historical literacy, European identity formation, and the role of educational media in shaping political discourses. She actively contributes to interdisciplinary research projects such as EurEd (2018–2023) exploring interconnectedness in educational materials.

Her research integrates methodologies from history, political science, and education studies to analyze how concepts of Europeanness and national identities are constructed across time and media. Recent work examines democracy narratives in transnational contexts and the pedagogical challenges of teaching history in foreign language settings.

Gorbahn has led projects like KursKultur 2.0 (2019–2022), focusing on German language education, and collaborated on studies addressing antisemitism in school textbooks. She maintains strong ties to educational policy communities through her consultancy projects on digital technologies in language teaching and curriculum design.
