Katja Stempel

Katja Stempel is a Research Fellow at Saarland University working in the Department of Social Sciences and European Studies. She currently serves as a research assistant on the PROTEMO project (Emotional dynamics of protective policies in an age of insecurity) since January 2024.

Her research focuses on political science and European studies with particular interests in:

• Democracy
• Political emotions
• Political communication
• Polarization

Dr. Stempel holds an MSocSc in Global Politics and Communication from the University of Helsinki (2021-2023) with a specialization in Media and Democracy, and an MA in European Studies from the University of Aberdeen (2015-2019) with language options in French and Spanish.

She previously completed an internship at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin in 2022, working with Dr. Claudia Zilla in the Research Group America.
