Katie Bailey is Professor of Leadership and HRM at Newcastle Business School, Northumbria University, and Professor of Work and Employment at King's College London. She has held senior academic and leadership roles at the universities of Sussex, Kent, and Kingston, and is currently a member of the ACCA Qualifications Board.
Her research centers on meaningful work, callings, craft, temporality, work engagement, and gender in organizations. She has published extensively in top academic journals and practitioner outlets such as Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Review, Human Relations, and Journal of Business Ethics. Her work explores how individuals find purpose in work and how organizations can foster meaningful employment experiences.
The recent articles highlight a strong trend in meaningful work, organizational purpose, and the temporal dimensions of work. Her scholarship bridges theory and practice, often focusing on ethical leadership, employee well-being, and the human experience of work. She is particularly interested in how time, identity, and purpose intersect in organizational contexts.

Katie Bailey has played a significant role in academic leadership and knowledge dissemination. She was Co-Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Management Reviews and has served on the editorial boards of several journals. She founded the Kingston Employee Engagement Consortium and the Meaning and Purpose Network (MaPNet) at King’s College London, demonstrating her commitment to bridging academic research with practical applications. She also works as a coach supporting academics in career development. Her research has been funded through institutional and professional affiliations, and she has contributed to major academic handbooks and textbooks.
She is actively involved in research networks and collaborative initiatives focused on meaningful work and employee engagement, including MaPNet and previous involvement with ReWAGE and the Involvement and Participation Association.
