Dr. Kathryn Stok is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at The University of Melbourne. She specializes in using computed tomography (CT) imaging and advanced image processing techniques to study structural changes in joints associated with arthritis, aiming to predict musculoskeletal disease risks and improve diagnostic approaches.
Her research focuses on developing quantitative morphometric analysis (QMA) software for joint and tissue assessment in preclinical and clinical settings. She is a key member of the OCTA (Osteoarthritis Computed Tomography) research group and contributes to multimodal imaging studies of arthritis pathophysiology.
Recent work highlights include methodological advancements in high-resolution CT imaging of rheumatoid arthritis joints, contrast-enhanced cartilage visualization, and 3D analysis of osteoarthritic changes in rabbit and murine models. Her studies bridge biomechanical stress analysis with tissue-level morphological quantification.
Scientific Awards:
- Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia (FIEAust)
Dr. Stok leads translational research projects combining biomedical engineering principles with clinical applications, collaborating internationally to identify disease-specific features that disrupt joint homeostasis. She actively contributes to educational initiatives through her lab's publications and technical training programs.
