Mark Grinstaff is the William Fairfield Warren Distinguished Professor at Boston University, holding primary appointments in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Chemistry within the College of Engineering. He leads the Grinstaff Group, a multidisciplinary team focused on biomaterials, nanotechnology, and regenerative medicine. His work spans applications in cartilage repair, drug delivery, and diagnostic imaging.

His research interests include designing biodendrimers for tissue engineering, interfacial biomaterials for medical devices, and electrochemical sensors. He has pioneered contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) techniques for cartilage assessment and developed nanoparticle-based therapies for osteoarthritis and cancer. His lab emphasizes translational research, bridging chemistry and biomedical engineering.
Grinstaff’s recent publications highlight advancements in machine learning for osteoarthritis diagnosis, dual-contrast CT imaging, and synthetic biolubricants. His work integrates nanotechnology with clinical challenges, such as improving post-surgical outcomes and drug delivery precision.
