Kathryn Reed is an Assistant Professor and Vice Chair for Equity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS). She transitioned to full-time academia in 2021 after four years of clinical practice in family and internal medicine in Pittsburgh.

Reed earned her Bachelor of Science in Emergency Medicine and Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies, both from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a certified PA (PA-C) and deeply committed to advancing health equity through education and mentorship.
Her research and professional interests focus on health disparities, preventative care access, patient education in underrepresented populations, and pre-health mentorship. She is passionate about creating inclusive learning environments and validating lived experiences in healthcare education. Reed leads several interprofessional initiatives, including the Community, Partnership, Identity, and Dialogue (CuPID) course, the Future Health Care Provider Outreach Program (FHCPOP), and the Multi-Cultural Pre-Health Panel Series, all aimed at increasing diversity in the health professions.
Her recent publications explore themes in justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging (JEDI-B) in training programs, digital health policy, and mental health support for long-term care staff. These works reflect a strong commitment to systemic change, interprofessional collaboration, and culturally responsive care.
Reed has received multiple honors, including:

She is also a co-investigator on the Pitt Innovation in Education Award project 'Gaining the E.D.G.E of AI,' where she contributes to developing AI literacy among healthcare students and faculty. Reed serves as Faculty Advisor for the SHRS Affinity Groups and mentors students through outreach and panel programs, particularly supporting underrepresented-in-medicine youth. Her leadership in community-engaged education and interprofessional collaboration continues to shape inclusive healthcare training at Pitt.
