Dr. Kathryn Levine is an Associate Professor at the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Social Work. She holds a PhD (2006) and BSW (1982) from University of Manitoba, and MSW (1988) from Carleton University. Her interdisciplinary research examines child welfare systems and mental health interventions.
Research interests include educational outcomes for children in care, interventions for youth/adolescents, women's issues, family-centered practice, and at-risk populations. Current SSHRC-funded projects explore system improvements for children in care and dignity promotion for individuals with FASD. Additional studies examine gambling behaviors and justice-involved women with disabilities.
Teaching innovations include interdisciplinary courses bridging social work and education. Recognized with 2020 Scholarship in Teaching and Learning Award for creating collaborative learning models. Service includes chairing Opportunities for Independence, supporting cognitively impaired individuals in justice systems.
