Kathryn Edwards is Associate Professor of History specializing in modern France and French empire, particularly historical remembrance processes. Her monograph Contesting Indochina (UC Press, 2016) analyzes competing narratives of the Indochina War (1945-1954) through film, monuments, veterans' organizations, and commemorative practices during decolonization and Cold War contexts.
Current research examines colonial reform under the Popular Front government (1930s), focusing on the Guernut commission's evaluation of colonial abuses. Teaching includes courses on:
- French colonialism (1830-present)
- Immigration and identity in contemporary France
- War and remembrance
- Modern European history surveys
Publications appear in journals including French Politics, Culture & Society, French Colonial History, and Hagar: Studies in Culture, Polity and Identities.
