Simon Perego is a Lecturer in contemporary history at the National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations (INaLCO), affiliated with the Department of Hebrew and Jewish Studies. He serves as a researcher within the CERMOM team, focusing on Jewish historical studies and memory politics. His academic responsibilities include teaching courses on Jewish history in France, Poland, Russia, and the United States, alongside seminars on the contemporary Jewish world.
Perego's research explores:
- The evolution of Holocaust memory and commemorative practices
- Postwar Jewish migrations and diaspora formations
- Yiddish cultural and linguistic history
- Transnational Jewish identities in Europe and the Middle East
His publications demonstrate consistent focus on Holocaust memorialization in France, examining linguistic dimensions of remembrance (Yiddish vs. French), institutional documentation efforts, and transnational political influences during the Cold War. Recent works analyze early postwar commemorative conflicts and refugee experiences.
Perego holds editorial roles with four academic journals: 20&21. History Review, Jewish Archives, Revue d’histoire de la Shoah, and Yod. Journal of Hebrew and Jewish Studies. He co-curated exhibitions at Paris's Shoah Memorial, including The Voice of Witnesses (2020) and After the Shoah (2016), contributing to their scholarly catalogs.
