Kathryn Bandy is a Lecturer in the Department of Near Eastern Studies at the University of Chicago, teaching since 2022. She specializes in ancient Egyptian administrative systems and material culture. Her research focuses on urban/regional administration from the Middle Kingdom to the early New Kingdom, with particular attention to labor organization and administrative terminology.
Education: Ph.D. (2016), M.A. (University of Chicago); B.A. in Egyptology (American University in Cairo). Affiliated with the Center for Middle Eastern Studies.
Her work centers on hieratic ostraca from Tell Edfu, examining administrative processes, text lifecycle (creation to disposal), and writing practices. Key research themes include the interplay between physical artifacts and administrative practices in ancient Egypt.
