Gregory Marouard is a Senior Research Scholar and Lecturer in the Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations (NELC) department at Yale University since 2020. Previously, he served as Senior Research Associate at the Oriental Institute and Lecturer at the University of Chicago's NELC department. His research focuses on settlement archaeology, ancient Egyptian urbanism, household archaeology, and the application of new technologies in archaeological investigation.
He conducts fieldwork across Egypt, including co-directing excavations at Tell Edfu (since 2009) and Wadi al-Jarf (Red Sea harbor site). His work emphasizes Pharaonic harbor infrastructure, Old Kingdom urban expansion, and Middle Kingdom mining expeditions. He is a consultant archaeologist for the Epigraphic Survey (Chicago House, Luxor) and has received multiple grants for his research.
Key projects include the Tell Edfu settlement excavations exploring 3rd millennium BC urbanization, the Wadi al-Jarf harbor revealing 4th Dynasty maritime infrastructure, and surveys of Greco-Roman sites like Kom ed-Dahab in the Menzaleh Lake region. His publications analyze ancient technologies, settlement patterns, and interdisciplinary approaches combining remote sensing with traditional excavation methods.
