Lisa Haney is a Part-Time Lecturer and Assistant Curator at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh. She holds a Ph.D. in Egyptology from the University of Pennsylvania (2018), an M.A. in Ancient Near Eastern and Egyptian Studies from New York University (2008), and a B.A. in Antiquities from Missouri State University (2005). Her research focuses on the archaeology and material culture of Egypt’s Middle Kingdom (ca. 2030–1650 B.C.E.), particularly the political landscape of the 12th Dynasty and royal representation strategies. She has conducted fieldwork in Egypt and Oman, emphasizing object-based learning and museum curation practices.

Research Interests: Dr. Haney’s work integrates archaeological evidence, ancient texts, and material culture to explore political dynamics in ancient Egypt. She specializes in analyzing royal imagery, stelae, and trade networks to understand power structures and cultural exchange. Her current projects investigate the role of the Red Sea trade in the Middle Kingdom economy and the symbolic representation of co-regency in 12th Dynasty art.
Publications: Her recent work includes studies on coregency dynamics, Red Sea trade, and Penn Museum artifact analysis, published in journals like Journal of the American Research Center in Egypt and Journal of Ancient Egyptian Interconnections. An upcoming volume on Red Sea trade networks is forthcoming with Archaeopress.
Professional Activities: As an Assistant Curator, Dr. Haney contributes to museum exhibitions and public education programs. She has collaborated on archaeological projects in Egypt and Oman and advocates for interdisciplinary approaches to cultural heritage preservation.
