Kathleen Olewinski is a Clinical Associate Professor and serves as the Program Director and Educational Coordinator for the Health Care Administration program within the Department of Health Informatics and Administration at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's College of Health Sciences. She holds national board certification as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator (NHA), and a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), bringing over 30 years of executive leadership experience in diverse healthcare settings and academia.
Her research interests center on professional development, particularly examining how involvement in professional associations and mentorship influences early career success in healthcare administration. She has delivered presentations at national and state conferences on topics including confidentiality, legal issues in mental health and substance abuse, and accreditation compliance.
She is actively engaged in numerous professional organizations such as the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and the Wisconsin Academic Advising Association (WACADA), where she has held leadership roles including committee chairs and board memberships.
Kathleen has served in various academic and community service roles at UWM, including Faculty Advisor for Future Healthcare Executives and Upsilon Phi Delta Honor Society, Scholarship Committee Chair, and member of curriculum, alumni, and interprofessional education task forces. She also contributes to statewide advisory groups related to Medicaid, behavioral health, and healthcare policy.
She teaches courses in Healthcare Administration Internship, Clinical Practicum, Healthcare Quality Management, Human Resource Management in Health Care Organizations, Gerontology for Health Care Administrators, and Health Documentation, among others.
