Kathleen A Martinelli is an Associate Professor and Undergraduate Advisor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at San José State University. She holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University (1991) and dual B.S. degrees in Journalism and English from Ball State University (1978), along with an M.A. in Public Relations (1985). Her professional experience includes roles as a newspaper reporter, sports information director, and public information specialist at Ball State University.
Dr. Martinelli specializes in public relations strategy, crisis communication, and media psychology. She teaches courses focusing on PR case studies and strategic writing, emphasizing practical skills for industry impact. Her research explores crisis management, media effects on voter behavior, and psychological responses to media messages. She advises students in Advertising, Public Relations, and Journalism majors, offering structured 4-year academic plans.
Her publications span crisis communication case studies (e.g., Odwalla incident), grant proposal strategies, and media's role in sociocultural issues. She maintains active advising roles through scheduled appointments in DBH 102, supporting over 20 years of dedicated teaching and mentorship.
