Diana Martinelli serves as Dean of the College of Media at West Virginia University, a position she assumed in 2019 after eight years as Associate Dean and a term as Acting Dean (2015-2016). She holds the endowed Widmeyer Professorship in Public Relations and returned to WVU in 2005 as its first professor in this role.

With 15 years of pre-academic industry experience in broadcasting, healthcare, and federal communications, her research bridges public relations theory and practice. Her scholarship focuses on journalism ethics, public relations pedagogy, and mass communication history, evidenced by publications in Public Relations Review and Journalism Studies. She examines how historical contexts shape modern communication practices and advocates for interdisciplinary approaches in media education.
Her distinguished recognition includes the AEJMC Mass Communication and Society Distinguished Educator Award (2011) and university-wide teaching honors at WVU and Ohio University. Professional accolades encompass membership in the Arthur W. Page Society, Kappa Tau Alpha journalism honorary, and selection for the Scripps Howard Academic Leadership Academy (2013).
