Katherine Sawyer is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Stony Brook University, part of the State University of New York (SUNY). She holds a PhD in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland. Her research focuses on civil conflict, rebellion, biopsychological predictors of political violence, and computational models of conflict. She has conducted fieldwork on individual and network responses to police violence in the U.S. and designs experiments to study aggressive responses to repressive environments. Dr. Sawyer’s work has been published in top journals like *International Organization*, *Journal of Conflict Resolution*, and *Journal of Peace Research*. She teaches courses including POL 103 (Introduction to Comparative Politics) and graduate-level courses on data analysis and game theory.
Her research explores the interplay of genetic and environmental factors influencing political behavior, particularly in the Basque region of Spain. Recent projects include analyzing systemic justification in far-right movements and investigating anti-Asian sentiment post-COVID-19. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates political science with sociology, biology, and computational methods.
