Dr Katherine Parsons is a Lecturer in Management, Employment and Organisation at Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University. She serves as co-module leader for the undergraduate Society and Economy module and teaches on the Engineering Management MSc program, and is available for postgraduate supervision.
Her research focuses on purpose-driven and responsible business, entrepreneurship, social and inclusive innovation, and digital futures of work. Dr Parsons employs qualitative research methods with particular expertise in organizational ethnography and practice theory. Her work challenges the traditional dichotomy between commercial and social enterprise by examining socially purposeful for-profit startups.
Dr Parsons' publications reveal a consistent focus on innovation policy, entrepreneurial identity formation, and inclusive business practices. Her 2024 article 'Advancing inclusive innovation policy in the UK's second-tier city-regions' has gained significant policy traction, being cited in influential documents from The Productivity Institute and Bennett Institute for Public Policy which address how to make innovation more inclusive across different communities.

Prior to her academic career, Dr Parsons worked in leadership and management development across public and private sectors. She holds a PhD, MSc in Social Science Research Methods, MSc in Entrepreneurial Practice, and has completed the CIPD Professional Development Scheme and PGCE (FE), along with achieving Fellow status with the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
