Katharina Hendrickx is a Research Associate at the Sussex Centre for Cultural Studies and School Tutor in Media and Film within the Faculty of Media, Arts and Humanities at the University of Sussex. She holds a PhD in Media and Cultural Studies (2023), an MA in Literary Media (Distinction, 2016), and a BA in English (High 2:1, 2015) from Bournemouth University.
Her research explores intersections of gender, genre fiction, and audience engagement, with focus areas including:
- The Gothic literary tradition in contemporary crime fiction
- Domestic noir as a vehicle for discussing gendered violence
- Book clubs as sites for feminist discourse and community-building
- Media representations of mental health and domesticity
Recent publications (2021-2025) predominantly analyze domestic noir through feminist and Gothic lenses, examining pandemic-era reading practices, television adaptations, and socio-political dimensions of women's genre fiction. Her work consistently bridges textual analysis with audience reception studies.
