Kate Winkler Dawson

Kate Winkler Dawson is a Professor of Practice in the Department of Broadcast Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin's School of Journalism and Media. With nearly 25 years in television news, she has held roles at leading networks including CBS, ABC, and Fox News, and has produced documentaries and award-winning content. She holds an MS in Journalism from Columbia University and previously taught at Fordham University.

Research Interests:

Dawson focuses on broadcast journalism, documentary storytelling, and true crime narratives. Her work explores historical crimes, forensics, and media's role in societal issues. She has produced films such as La Candelaria, Breaking the Barrier, and authored books like Death in the Air and American Sherlock, both optioned for TV adaptations. Her podcast Tenfold More Wicked delves into historical true crime, hosted on the award-winning Exactly Right network.

Teaching and Advising:

In addition to teaching at UT Austin, Dawson advised the ABC News on Campus digital bureau and supervised student newspapers at Fordham University. She blends her industry expertise with academic mentorship, emphasizing modern reporting techniques and digital journalism.
