Julian Rubinstein is a Visiting Professor of Filmmaking and Journalism at Western Colorado University, affiliated with the Department of Communication Arts, Language & Literature. He holds an MS in Journalism from Columbia University (1992) and a BA in Political Science from Emory University (1991). His work bridges investigative journalism and documentary filmmaking, focusing on urban development, crime, and community dynamics.
Key research interests include documentary storytelling, gentrification, and true crime narratives. He has taught at Columbia University, Colorado College, and the University of Denver. His award-winning documentary *THE HOLLY* (2023) explores gentrification and urban conflict in Denver, winning the 2024 Heartland Emmy and IRE Award. His nonfiction book *The Holly* (2021) was a New York Times 'Editors’ Choice' and won the 2022 Colorado Book Award.
