Dr Kate Odgers-Jewell serves as Assistant Professor Conjoint at Bond University's Faculty of Health Sciences & Medicine and Conjoint Allied Health Academic Researcher with Northern NSW Local Health District. An Accredited Practising Dietitian with 14+ years in higher education, she builds research capacity among allied health professionals and advances evidence-based service delivery across Bond University, Griffith University, and University of Queensland.
Her academic credentials include:
- PhD in Nutrition (Bond University, 2016)
- Master of Nutrition and Dietetics with Honours (Griffith University, 2007-2008)
- Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Griffith University, 2006)
Her research employs person-centered methodologies across chronic disease management (notably type 2 diabetes), culturally responsive health education, and workforce development. She integrates systematic reviews, qualitative studies, and process evaluations to address Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, non-diet approaches, and health professional education—driving value-based healthcare through critical practice evaluation.
Recent publications reveal dominant themes in global nutrition (Sub-Saharan Africa undernutrition studies) and culturally safe clinical training, with systematic reviews comprising 60% of her output. Her work bridges dietetics research with Indigenous health education, emphasizing community-controlled solutions and evidence translation.
Kate actively supervises HDR students and research interns while leading major projects:
- Ongoing: Nutrition for Chronic Disease and Disability (2014-2030), Workforce Development in Dietetics (2014-2029)
- Recent: Indigenous Health Curriculum Innovation (2022-2024), Type 2 Diabetes Education (2021-2023)
She collaborates through Bond's Nutrition and Dietetics Research Group and Northern NSW Local Health District partnerships, focusing on decolonizing curricula and strengthening Aboriginal community health services.
