Kate O'Reilly is an Assistant Professor of Private Law at Maastricht University's Faculty of Law since 2023. She holds a PhD (2023), MSt from University of Oxford (2017), LL.B. Cum Laude (2015), and a Double Honours B.A. in Anthropology & English Literature with Critical Theory (2009). She also serves as Visiting Scholar at Emory University's Vulnerability Initiative and Feminism & Legal Theory Project (2025).

Her research focuses on socio-legal critiques of EU consumer law, property law, and legal empowerment frameworks. Her 2023 doctoral thesis re-examines EU consumer empowerment paradigms through socio-legal lenses. Recent work emphasizes legal harmonization challenges in European private law.
Teaching roles include course coordination for Introduction to Private Law (Bachelor of European Law) and multiple leadership roles in academic programs like the Honours Programme and Research-Based Learning Project. Active in interdisciplinary initiatives like the MEPLI Talks series and student mentorship programs.
