Dr Kate Kennedy is a Supernumerary Research Fellow at Wolfson College (University of Oxford) and Co-Director of the Oxford Centre for Life-writing. She combines academic work with BBC broadcasting and cello performance. Educated at Cambridge University, Royal College of Music, and King’s College London, Kennedy has held research fellowships at Girton College Cambridge and Wolfson College Oxford.
Research Interests: Specializing in 20th century British music and literature, Kennedy explores intersections between madness/creativity, war studies, and instrument biography. Her work spans musicology, literary criticism, performance studies, and cultural memory, particularly focusing on WWI composers, life-writing, and archive curation.
Academic Contributions: Recent publications include Cello: A Journey Through Silence to Sound (2024) and Dweller in Shadows: A Life of Ivor Gurney (2021). Her articles analyze WWI cultural memory, Britten's operatic techniques, and music-literature intersections.
