Stephanie Tress is a cello teacher at the Royal College of Music (RCM) Junior Department. She is a founding member of the Solem Quartet (formed 2011), known for critically acclaimed performances and recordings, including their debut album ‘The Four Quarters’. The quartet collaborates with leading composers like Anna Meredith and Thomas Adès, and has received awards from the Royal Philharmonic Society and Jerwood Arts. Additionally, Tress is part of experimental group House of Bedlam and frequently performs with ensembles such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, and film orchestras.
Her career highlights include a performance of Michael Gordon’s Industry with Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood at Hidden Notes Festival and BBC Radio 3 broadcasts. She holds a Joint Course degree from Manchester University and Royal Northern College of Music (2014, distinction), and has performed on major film soundtracks. Tress also served as Principal Cello of Sinfonia Cymru and currently works as a Guest Principal with Manchester Camerata.
Research & Awards: Tress’s work focuses on chamber music innovation and contemporary compositions. Her quartet’s collaborations with composers and live electronics underscore her commitment to bridging classical and modern performance. Awards reflect recognition of her ensemble’s artistic contributions.
