Kate Hiseman serves as a Senior Lecturer Practitioner at Anglia Ruskin University within the Faculty of Engineering, Agri-tech and the Environment at the Peterborough campus. With 30 years of multidisciplinary experience spanning academia, local government, statutory agencies, consultancies, and third-sector organizations, she specializes in translating environmental theory into practical sustainability solutions for communities, businesses, and landowners.
Her educational foundation includes an HND in Rural Land Management, an MSc in Energy & Sustainability, and ongoing PhD research at Loughborough University focused on natural capital applications in UK rural landscapes. Professional credentials encompass PGDE teaching qualification, City & Guilds Assessor status, and 20 years of full membership in both IEMA and CIEEM.
Research centers on developing simplified natural capital frameworks to address climate-biodiversity crises across spatial scales—from farm estates to catchment areas—with emphasis on co-produced tools for non-specialists. Key applications target ecosystem service restoration in agri-environmental contexts, nature-based solutions for flood mitigation, and community-driven biodiversity action. Her work bridges academic theory with on-ground implementation through statutory policy development and grassroots initiatives.
Kate actively supervises postgraduate research while teaching across FdSc/BSc Environmental Management and Agri-Food Technology programs. Project portfolio includes sustainability strategies for educational institutions, environmental impact assessments under SEA/EIA frameworks, carbon sequestration initiatives, and community-scale waste/recycling programs. She founded both a sustainability consultancy and the Sustainable Land Trust charity integrating land use, ecosystem services, and wellbeing.
Operational networks span Natural England advisory roles, Rutland Climate Action Network technical support, and community projects like Sherwood 2080 forecasting landscape evolution under climate scenarios. Media engagements include BBC Countryfile, BBC Radio Wales, and BBC East Midlands Today on ecological restoration and sustainability practices.
