Kate Acton

Kate Acton is an Assistant Professor/Lecturer in Veterinary Nursing at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University College Dublin (UCD). She holds a Master of Science (MSc) from the University of Edinburgh (2019) and is currently completing a PhD at UCD. Her academic career includes roles as Senior Lecturer at the College of Animal Welfare (2019–2020) and Head Nurse/Practice Manager at Vets4Pets (2016–2018).

Her work bridges scientific research with practical applications, such as improving horse welfare through podcasts like Conversations in Equine Science (co-hosted with Nancy McLean) and analyzing listener behavior to enhance knowledge transfer.

• Coordinates modules: Practical Animal Husbandry, Professional Practice, VN Clinical Placement, and others.
• Incorporates Fear-Free certification into animal handling teaching.
• Promotes Universal Design for Learning to ensure inclusive education.
