Professor Kataryna Wolczuk is a leading academic in East European Politics at the University of Birmingham’s School of Government. Her work focuses on EU relations with post-Soviet states, the European Neighbourhood Policy, Eastern Partnership, and Eurasian integration dynamics.
- PhD and MSocSc in Russian and East European Studies from Birmingham
- Magister of Law from the University of Gdansk, Poland
Her research explores the EU’s influence on domestic reforms in Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova, Russia’s geopolitical strategies, and the interplay between Europeanization and national identity in Eastern Europe. Recent projects include EU-funded H2020 and FP7 grants.
She has supervised PhD students from Germany, the UK, and Georgia, with research topics spanning post-Soviet state-building, EU enlargement, and regional security. Her publications analyze EU-Russia competition, energy policies, and constitutional reforms in Ukraine.
As an Associate Fellow at Chatham House and a judge for BASEES book prizes, she actively engages with policy and academic communities. Her media presence includes BBC Radio 3 interviews and contributions to international outlets like The Independent and Wall Street Journal.
