Prof. Giselle Bosse is a Full Professor in EU External Democracy Support at Maastricht University’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, holding a Jean Monnet Chair in EU Foreign Policy. She is a Fellow at the European Democracy Hub (Brussels) and affiliated with institutions like the Martens Centre and College of Europe. Her research focuses on EU policies toward post-Soviet states, democracy promotion, and the interplay of values in foreign policy.
Education: MA from College of Europe (Natolin), PhD in Political Science from Aberystwyth University.
Research Interests: EU enlargement, Eastern Partnership, democratic backsliding in Belarus/Ukraine, normative governance, and the EU’s response to geopolitical crises like Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Her work bridges academic analysis and policy impact, with grants from NWO and EU Horizon projects.
Grants & Leadership: Led work packages in Horizon projects EMBRACE (2022–2025) and INVIGORATE (2024–2027). Awarded VENI (2013–2016) and ASPASIA grants (2018–2022). Co-coordinates the EmergEU Jean Monnet Centre and chairs the EUCTER network.
