Katarina Wessling is a Researcher at the Research Centre for Education and Labour Market (ROA) within the School of Business and Economics at Maastricht University, where she leads the Learning & Work seminar series. She also heads a junior research group at the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) in Bonn.

Her research focuses on the interplay between spatial and institutional contexts—such as neighborhoods, schools, and regions—and individual educational and occupational outcomes. She integrates large-scale survey and register data with geocoded local/regional information to analyze how contexts shape preferences, attitudes, and opportunities.
Key projects she leads or co-leads include the HorizonEurope Skills2Capabilities initiative, the Eurograduate Survey, and the RISA Project. Her work bridges interdisciplinary educational research with labor market dynamics.
