Katarina Nordblom is a Full Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Gothenburg. She holds affiliations with the Center for Collective Action Research and the Uppsala Center for Fiscal Studies. Her research focuses on public economics, behavioral economics, and taxation policy, particularly tax compliance, tax morale, and policy interventions. Nordblom combines theoretical and empirical approaches to address policy-relevant issues and human decision-making dynamics. She has led research projects funded by the Swedish Research Council and other institutions, and has served as Head of the Department of Economics (2011–2015). Her teaching spans microeconomics and public economics at undergraduate, master’s, and PhD levels, with over 1,000 hours of instruction. Nordblom has supervised numerous PhD students and participates in academic leadership roles, including membership in the University Ethics Committee and the Swedish Tax Authority’s Scientific Board.
Educational background: M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from Uppsala University (2000), with a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Gothenburg. Appointed docent (2009) and Full Professor (2020). Previous roles include Malmsten Assistant Professor (2003–2006) and Research Fellow (2007–2008).
Research interests include tax evasion mechanisms, social norms’ evolution, and the impact of policy design on taxpayer behavior. She has published extensively in journals like the American Economic Journal: Economic Policy and the Journal of Public Economic Theory. Nordblom is a frequent speaker at academic and public forums, addressing topics like tax morality and green nudges. Her work bridges economic theory with practical policy implications, emphasizing behavioral insights for sustainable tax systems.
Grants include SEK 4.6 million from the Swedish Research Council (2022–2024) and SEK 5.2 million (2017–2019). Awards include the Knut och Alice Wallenberg Scholarship (2002–2003) and the Richard C. Malmsten Assistant Professorship (2003–2006). She has advised on tax policy for Swedish governmental bodies and media outlets, contributing to public debates on taxation fairness and environmental policy.
