Andreea Mitrut is a Professor at the Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg, serving as Deputy Head of Department, PhD Program Director, and Head of Research. She holds affiliations with SITE (Stockholm School of Economics) and J-PAL (Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab), with academic visits to Columbia University's SIPA. Her research bridges labor economics, public economics, and political economy, focusing on early child development, education, corruption, and social exclusion.
Her education includes a PhD in Economics from the University of Gothenburg (2008) and an M.Sc. in Statistics and Economic Forecasting from the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies (2003). She has received prestigious awards, including grants from the Jan Wallander Foundation and Swedish Research Council.
Research interests span applied microeconomics, health economics, and corruption analysis. Key publications address corruption in education, health mediation programs for Roma populations, and the impact of education on mortality. Over 35 students have been supervised at undergraduate and graduate levels.
Grants include Riksbanken funding for teacher-student interactions research (SEK 2.87M) and a Swedish Research Council grant for criminal victimization studies (SEK 4.8M).
