Katarina Bälter is a Professor of Public Health at Mälardalen University (since 2016) and an Affiliated Associate Professor of Epidemiology at Karolinska Institutet (since 2016). Her research focuses on sustainable lifestyle and health, addressing diet-related diseases and climate change aligned with global sustainability goals.
Education: BSc in Nutrition (Stockholm University, 1993), PhD in Medical Science (Karolinska Institutet, 1998), postdoctoral training at Harvard, Boston University, and Stanford University. Prior roles include positions at Karolinska Institutet (2000–2016) and guest lectureships at Williams College.
Research interests include sustainable diets, workplace health interventions, adolescent health, and environmental justice. Key projects: SOFCO (30M SEK), OnE LEARNS (4M SEK), and ACTION (3M SEK). These focus on sustainable offices, digital health education, and youth health programs.
Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches linking public health, environmental science, and policy. Active in citizen science initiatives and global health equity projects.
