Susanna Toivanen is a Professor of Sociology at Mälardalen University's School of Health, Care and Social Welfare, Division of Sociology. She holds an Erik Allardt Fellowship at Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies (2014–present) and has prior roles including Associate Professor at Stockholm University (2011–2017) and postdoctoral research at NCC Property Development and the Centre for Health Equity Studies. Her work focuses on health inequalities in working populations and sustainable workplaces, particularly outdoor office environments linked to UN SDGs like health equity and sustainable cities.
