Dr. Kasey Keeler is an Associate Professor with a joint appointment in the Civil Society & Community Studies department at the School of Human Ecology and the American Indian & Indigenous Studies program at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Her research focuses on federal Indian policy, land dispossession, and Indigenous placemaking in urban and suburban contexts. She holds a PhD in American Studies from the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities and a BA in Political Science from UW–Madison.
Her groundbreaking book, American Indians and the American Dream: Policies, Place, and Property in Minnesota (2023), examines intersections of housing policy and Indigenous sovereignty. Current projects include analyzing Paul Bunyan narratives as tools of settler nostalgia in the Great Lakes region. Affiliations include UW–Native Nations and the American Indian & Indigenous Studies program.
Keeler’s work has been featured in Edge Effects, Minnesota Public Radio, and Belt Magazine. She advocates for Indigenous climate justice and voting rights, emphasizing tribal sovereignty’s role in contemporary issues.
