Kasey Claborn, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at the University of Texas at Austin's Steve Hicks School of Social Work. She serves as Director of the Addiction Research Institute and Co-Director of the South Southwest Addiction Technology Transfer Center. Her work focuses on improving addiction care systems through digital health innovation and community-based participatory research. Dr. Claborn has secured over $17M in NIH and federal funding for projects addressing opioid overdose prevention, harm reduction, and HIV/substance use integration.
Education includes a clinical psychology Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University, postdoctoral training at Brown University’s Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies, and prior faculty roles at Brown University. Her research emphasizes digital ecosystems like TxCOPE, a Google-awarded platform enhancing overdose response in Texas. She leads multisectoral collaborations to strengthen community overdose prevention and recovery housing initiatives.
Key research interests span opioid crisis interventions, harm reduction worker well-being, and technology-driven healthcare coordination. She advises on opioid litigation cases and health IT infrastructure reforms. Recent projects include developing overdose tracking systems and evaluating occupational stress among harm reduction workers.
