Brandon David Lewis Marshall is a Professor of Epidemiology at Brown University School of Public Health and Founding Director of the People, Place & Health Collective (PPHC), a research team focused on substance use epidemiology and harm reduction. He holds a PhD from the University of British Columbia and completed postdoctoral training at Columbia University. His work addresses opioid overdose prevention, HIV transmission dynamics among drug-using populations, and structural determinants of health. He leads NIH-funded projects like RAPIDS and PROVIDENT, and serves as Scientific Director of PreventOverdoseRI, a state overdose surveillance system.
Education: PhD in Epidemiology (University of British Columbia), Postdoctoral Training (Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health).
Research interests include overdose prevention strategies, harm reduction policies, and the intersection of drug use with HIV/AIDS. His team’s work spans epidemiologic methods, public health policy, and community-engaged research. Recent articles highlight naloxone distribution strategies, overdose prevention center effectiveness, and opioid settlement funding allocation.
He is a recipient of the NIDA Avenir Award for his agent-based modeling of HIV transmission and serves as Associate Editor for the International Journal of Drug Policy. His team includes four faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and over a dozen students/staff.
