Katja Troberg is a Researcher at Lund University's Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences, affiliated with the Clinical Addiction Research Unit within Psychiatry. Her work focuses on substance use disorders, particularly opioid dependence and overdose prevention strategies in the Swedish context. She actively contributes to research projects examining harm reduction interventions, treatment pathways, and healthcare access for individuals with substance use disorders.
Her research interests center on addiction medicine, specifically examining overdose prevention through naloxone distribution programs, harm reduction strategies including needle exchange programs, and improving healthcare access for patients in opioid substitution treatment. Troberg investigates barriers to care, retention in treatment programs, and the epidemiological effects of public health interventions targeting substance use disorders. Her work often employs mixed methods approaches to understand both quantitative outcomes and qualitative patient experiences.
The 14 research articles in her portfolio demonstrate consistent focus on opioid-related interventions, with recent publications (2022-2024) examining naloxone distribution effects on overdose mortality, patient experiences with take-home naloxone, treatment retention factors, and healthcare-seeking behaviors. Her work spans epidemiological studies, clinical trials, and mixed-methods research, primarily situated within Sweden's public health system with implications for international harm reduction strategies.
- Guldpillret 2023 - Awarded for significant contributions to addiction research and public health interventions
Troberg serves as Joint second supervisor for PhD students researching effective interventions against opioid overdose, including emergency dispatching systems and volunteer responder protocols. She has participated in five major research projects, four of which are completed, focusing on naloxone distribution effects, treatment referral systems, and somatic health needs among patients in opioid substitution treatment. Her collaborative work involves multiple Swedish institutions and healthcare providers.
As part of Lund University's Clinical Addiction Research Unit, Troberg contributes to a multidisciplinary team examining substance use disorders through clinical, epidemiological, and public health lenses. Her research directly informs Sweden's approach to harm reduction and treatment services, particularly regarding opioid dependence and overdose prevention strategies within the Scandinavian healthcare context.
