His research focuses on health economics, particularly in the areas of substance use disorders, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, and public health policy. He has extensive experience in cost-effectiveness analysis, simulation modeling, and implementation science, with a strong emphasis on harm reduction strategies for opioid use disorder and infectious disease management.
Education:

Research Interests: Schackman's work bridges economic evaluation and public health, examining the financial and clinical impacts of interventions for opioid overdose prevention, HIV treatment access, and hepatitis C care. His research often involves modeling health outcomes, assessing policy implications, and analyzing disparities in treatment access.
Recent Publications: His 2025 and 2024 articles emphasize naloxone distribution equity, syringe service program adaptations post-pandemic, and economic evaluations of community-level opioid interventions. Topics include geospatial analysis, harm reduction, and health equity in overdose prevention strategies.
Grants: Schackman leads or collaborates on major NIH-funded projects, including grants from NIDA, NICHD, and NIDDK, focusing on reversing overdose epidemics, improving access to long-acting injectables, and modeling the impact of HCV treatment in opioid programs.
External Collaborations: He serves on scientific advisory boards, including at Simon Fraser University, and contributes to policy discussions on Medicaid, prescription drug monitoring, and integrated HIV/Substance Use Disorder care.
