Dr. Karsten Longhurst is the Wanda L. Bass Chair of Vocal Music Education and Artistic Director of the Canterbury Youth Voices at Oklahoma City University. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Southern California, with master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the University of Utah and Weber State University, respectively.

His research interests focus on choral music education, arts leadership, and vocal performance. He has led ensembles like the NWOSU Singers and Canterbury Youth Voices, emphasizing pedagogy and artistic excellence. Dr. Longhurst is active as a guest conductor, adjudicator, and performer, collaborating with renowned artists and ensembles.
He currently serves as President-Elect of the Oklahoma Choral Director’s Association and is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the National Association for Music Educators. His performances include solo engagements with the Rolling Stones, Barry Manilow, and Elton John, as well as orchestras like the Enid Symphony.

Dr. Longhurst previously directed choral programs at Northwestern Oklahoma State University and taught K-12 music in Utah. He actively mentors students and leads community music initiatives through Canterbury Youth Voices.
