Roles & Affiliations: Karoline Rogge is Professor in Sustainability Innovation & Policy at SPRU (Science Policy Research Unit) at the University of Sussex, UK, and Deputy Head of the Department of Policy and Society. She leads the ERC-funded EMPOCI project on governing sustainable energy-mobility transitions and has held roles at Fraunhofer ISI (2004–2019) and the World Bank Institute. She holds a PhD from ETH Zurich (2010) and advanced degrees from the University of Heidelberg and University of Maryland.
Research Focus: Her work centers on policy mixes for sustainability transitions, including transformative governance of energy-mobility systems, innovation impacts of climate policies, and socio-political dynamics of systemic change. Key areas include low-carbon transitions in energy and transport, policy coherence, and democratic engagement in transitions.
Projects: Leads major initiatives like the EU-funded GreenDEMO (democratizing transitions), SONNET (social innovation in energy), and PATHWAYS (socio-technical transitions frameworks). Her research emphasizes multi-level policy interactions and the role of government in accelerating net-zero technologies.
Publications: Over 80 peer-reviewed articles on policy mixes, including seminal work in Research Policy and Environmental Innovation and Societal Transitions. Recent focus areas include governance of electricity storage, strategic autonomy in decarbonization, and actor involvement in multi-system transitions.
