Karolina Drozdowska is an Associate Professor in the Department of Language and Literature at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities. She specializes in Nordic literature, focusing on contemporary Norwegian prose and literary representations of space and place. Her research interests include the Baltic Sea region, postcolonial studies, and translation between Norwegian and Polish.
She is a member of the international research project Baltic Peripeties and the Literature as a Social Resource group, linked to the ImagiNation project at NTNU. Her work explores themes such as Eastern Europe in Norwegian literature and the role of translation in cultural exchange. She has served as Jury Leader for NTNU’s Literary Award from 2023 to 2025.
Her research spans spatial analysis in historical novels, intercultural theatre collaborations (e.g., with Odin Teatret), and challenges in translating Norwegian literature into Polish. Key publications include studies on Gaute Heivoll’s spatial narratives, Stolpersteine as memory markers, and xenostereotypes in Scandinavian contexts.
Awards and recognitions include sustained leadership roles in literary awards, reflecting her influence in Nordic literary circles. Her work bridges academic research with public engagement through lectures on Nordic literature’s global circulation and the role of translation in cultural diplomacy.
