John Brumo

John Brumo is a Professor of Nordic Literature at NTNU's Department of Language and Literature, with a doctorate from NTNU. He has served as Head of Department and Head of NTNU's associate professorship. His research focuses on modernism, Nordic literature, and literary didactics, particularly Norwegian literature from 1890 to the present.

He received the Meritorious Teacher title in 2022 for contributions to educational quality. His recent work includes Literature as Experience (2020), exploring modernism and media, and articles on authors like Frode Grytten and Knut Hamsun. Brumo has been a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley (2018/19) and participates in the USPITE research group on university pedagogy.

His teaching includes literary history and methods, such as courses on Kjartan Fløgstad and the 1930s. He has supervised numerous master’s theses and co-authored works on educational strategies, including interdisciplinary approaches to wildlife themes and textbook analysis. His awards reflect his dedication to innovative teaching and literary scholarship.
