Karlo Beljan is an Assistant Professor at the University of Zagreb's Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology, Department of Wood Technology. He specializes in teaching forestry economics to international students and conducts research in climate change economics, green finance, and forestry policy. His work bridges academic, public, and private sectors to address climate policy and sustainable land-use projects.
Beljan holds a PhD and has been an Assistant Professor since 2020, preceded by roles as a Senior Assistant and Junior Researcher. His research focuses on carbon storage, forest management models, and investment strategies in forestry. He collaborates on projects such as analyzing silver fir growth dynamics and the history of forest anthropization in Slavonia.
His research interests include the economic impacts of climate change, forestry-based carbon markets, and nature-based solutions. He has contributed to over 50 publications, emphasizing adaptive management practices and sustainable resource utilization in Croatia’s ecosystems.
Beljan teaches courses in forestry economics and communicates in Croatian, English, and Czech. He is actively involved in professional activities, including advising on forest policy and leading projects on decarbonization mechanisms and wood energy production in Southeastern Europe.
