Karine Bellerive is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Sherbrooke, where she has been teaching since 2008. She holds a PhD in Communication from the University of Montreal. Her research examines the intertwined aging of industrial regions like Shawinigan, analyzing deindustrialization impacts on communities, material heritage, and cultural memory through transdisciplinary frameworks.
Her research interests bridge Media Studies, Cultural Studies, Feminist/Gender Studies, and Urban Heritage, with specific focus on:
- Material/immaterial dimensions of industrial heritage
- Socio-cultural impacts of deindustrialization
- Mediation of aging cultures
- Power dynamics in heritage preservation
- Community belonging through urban landscapes
She currently conducts postdoctoral research documenting stakeholder relationships to Shawinigan's paper/aluminum heritage, investigating how industrial legacies shape identity, well-being, and community resilience.
