Julien Garnier is the Canada Research Chair in Urban Heritage at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). His work focuses on the intersection of urban heritage, architectural history, and sustainable development, particularly in contexts of deindustrialization and postcolonial transformation. He leads projects such as the Atlas of Urban Heritage, Company Towns in Canada, and Patrimoine et développement local, emphasizing the preservation and valorization of built landscapes.
His research spans critical urban studies, cultural identity, and the politics of heritage, with affiliations to networks like the Canadian Forum for Public Research on Heritage and the Société pour l’étude de l’architecture au Canada.
