Leila Ghaffari is a Canada Research Chair in Urban Heritage at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and a Professor-researcher in residence. Her academic career spans Iran, France, and Canada, reflecting a multinational and multidisciplinary approach. She focuses on urban transformation, social inequalities, and citizen perceptions of deindustrialization and gentrification.

Her research examines the social acceptability of gentrification and the role of cultural vitality in local development. She plans to explore trajectories of industrial sites in metropolitan contexts. Ghaffari collaborates with institutions like the Centre for Research on Social Innovations (CRISES) and participates in networks such as ACHS, TICCIH, and SEAC/SSAC.
Key initiatives include projects like “The architect-builder”: Victor Bourgeau and his era, Deindustrialization and the politics of our time, and Heritage and urban identity. She contributes to urban heritage education through courses like EUT1064 (Urban Heritage of Montreal) and EUR8216 (Methods for Built Environment Analysis).
Her scientific awards include the prestigious Canada Research Chair in Urban Heritage. Ghaffari also coordinates technical and educational activities within her research chair and collaborates with institutions like the Sainte-Brigide Community Center and the PARVI Respatrimoni network.
