Karin van der Hiele is an Assistant Professor in Neuropsychology at the Department of Health, Medical and Neuropsychology within Leiden University's College of Social and Behavioural Sciences. Her research focuses on work participation in patients with chronic neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis (MS) and migraine, examining factors that enable work functioning and interventions for work-related challenges.

Her MS@Work study (Dutch National MS Foundation) investigated predictors of employment status and absenteeism in MS patients, while the ongoing 'Don't be Late' project (NWA-funded) explores lifestyle and work coaching interventions for MS patients with cognitive issues. She also supervises Kamala Broekman's research on EMDR for epilepsy-related anxiety.
Karin has secured substantial grants, including a €1.6M National Research Agenda grant (2020) and multiple Dutch National MS Foundation and pharmaceutical industry grants (2013-2022). She teaches and coordinates courses in Clinical Neuropsychology at both Bachelor's and Master's levels.
